Additional snowfall accumulations expected across the region today.
An upper level low pressure system will continue to trigger scattered snow showers across the southern Appalachian region today. Light snowfall accumulations are expected across the lower elevations below 2500 feet, but moderate to significant snowfall accumulations will be possible across the higher elevations above 2500 feet.
Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 pm EDT This Evening.
  • Event: Total Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 4 inches across the lower elevations below 2500 feet, with 4 to 8 inches across the higher elevations above 2500 feet. Locally higher amounts of up to a foot are possible across the highest elevations above 4000 feet.
  • Timing: this morning and afternoon.
  • Impacts: Heavy snow may impede travel and restrict visibilities, as strong west to northwest winds accompany the snow showers in the higher terrain. Roads will likely become hazardous, and will affect any travel plans for early this week.
